Only Two Spots Remaining - TELEGRAPH special report

Posted By Phil Turtle, 11 November 2013
Updated: 11 November 2013

Dear All

I'm told by "our man at the Telegraph" that two of the four available spots in the DCA section of the December special report are now sold, so ONLY TWO spots remain.

This is a great opportunity to get in front of the UK's top business people so if you've been thinking about it you'll need to move fast to secure your place.

 The key points are:

  • Telegraph readership 1.4 million/Target audience 100,000 c-level executives), as well as online (20,000 visitors to the website per month).
  • The Telegraph is offering to DCA members that the first 4 companies to respond to this email can get a 500 word (half page) article for £6,040+vat (reduced from £12,095+vat). Bear in mind the massive circulation of the Telegraph and that it is a Broadsheet publication not A4.
  • Our contact, Ben Ruffell will be pleased to discuss on a no-obligation basis how you can get involved with the Efficient IT report and make the most of this opportunity. Ben is available on 0208 349 6460 and benr@lyonsdown.co.uk.

I've repeated Simon's earlier post here which gives the full details.

Best regards

Phil Turtle DCA Chief Communications Officer

The Daily Telegraph Efficient IT Report

Posted By Simon Campbell-Whyte, 05 November 2013

Dear Member

Data Centre Alliance has been invited to partner withThe Efficient IT Report which will be distributed in the Daily Telegraph on 3rd December 2013 (Telegraph readership 1.4 million/Target audience 100,000 c-level executives), as well as online (20,000 visitors to the website per month).

The soft copy will also be distributed to the entire membership of Intellect and the Green Grid and, of course, to Data Centre Alliance members too.

This report will be focussing on the short-term and long-term commercial benefits of making a company's IT portfolio energy efficient, the report will highlight the key issues an organisation needs to focus on in order to capitalise upon energy efficiency

Because, Shareholders compliance teams, clients and end-users all want to know that organisations are making the right choice and investing in companies that use energy efficiently. The implications of that decision can be devastating or triumphant in equal measure and CEOs need to be able to justify that decision at every level.

I am informed that approx 70% of participating companies in last year’s Green IT report have signed up for this year’s report which indicates that the majority of companies saw a good return on their investment. By featuring you cement your reputation as a leading provider of efficient solutions, can use the report to build new relationships with potential clients and ultimately help drive business revenue. Click hereto view all other reports.

As part of our partnership, DCA have secured a 50% reduction on rate card investments. There are very few sponsored editorial positions available.

The Telegraph is offering to DCA members that the first 4 companies to respond to this email can get a 500 word (half page) article for £6,040+vat (reduced from £12,095+vat). Bear in mind the massive circulation of the Telegraph and that it is a Broadsheet publication not A4.

Our contact, Ben Ruffell will be pleased to discuss on a no-obligation basis how you can get involved with the Efficient IT report and make the most of this opportunity. Ben is available on 0208 349 6460 and benr@lyonsdown.co.uk.

Kind regards

Sponsorship Opportunity: New Statesman Part Three

Posted By Simon Campbell-Whyte, 14 October 2013

Sponsorship Opportunities – New Statesman Part Three

Due to the success and profile of parts 1 & 2, and the uncovering of the depth and breadth of debating material, I'm delighted to announce the New Statesman would like to continue working with DCA on the next thought-leadership campaign helping to raising the profile of both your organisation and the growing data centre industry with a Special Report Part Three and the second Parliamentary Round Table.

The New Statesman is the country’s top current affairs magazine; it boasts a 100 year heritage of providing our readers with unrivalled informed editorial winning ‘Consumer magazine’ and ‘website’ of the year in 2009, 2011 and 2012 (BSME awards).

New Statesman has a weekly readership of 142,000 people. In February this year, the publication recorded 3.8 million readers which receive over 4 million page impressions on average per month from policy makers, local authorities, business leaders, the general media globally and engaged public.

In addition to news-stand distribution NS have a controlled circulation which means the report will go out to every CEO on the Forbes 2000 list and FTSE 250 companies, every MP, selected MEPs, Peers and Editors of regional UK newspapers. New Statesman readers are informed, engaged and are business leaders. 52% of readers are ‘business decision makers’, the audience our industry needs to engage with.

We have an upcoming opportunity for next "Parliamentary Round-Table” in the ‘Going Digital’ Series. This helps us move the agenda forward, making sure we keep our topics high on the agenda.

‘Going Digital: The Connected Digital Economy’

Connectivity is critical for most businesses. Yet policy makers have largely ignored the role of data centres which warehouse and securitize data and connect businesses to customers. What is the role of digital infrastructure in the national infrastructure plan? How can we shape policy to reflect the growing digital needs of the UK? How can technology boost economic growth and drive innovation in areas of need?

NS will suggest round-table participants drawn from parliament, think-tanks, organisations, other media, academia and the industry for a mixed and balanced discussion. Given that the infrastructure plan is high on the political agenda, this is the perfect time to highlight why the industry believes it should be one of the key priorities in the national infrastructure plan.

Sponsorship deadline: 24th October 2013 unless sponsored earlier.

Proposed round-table date: December 2013

Publish date of the report: mid January after parliamentary recess

As before DCA members are prioritised for sponsorship and editorial.

For Sponsorship packages please contact Eleanor Ng, email: eleanor.ng@newstatesman.co.uk tel: +44 (0) 207 936 6417 please be quick to avoid disappointment.

For Editorial contributions please send these to the DCA providing a short abstract ( although DCA members are prioritised, editorial is subject the NS editor approval, therefore we cannot guarantee inclusion) send your editorial requests HERE

Posted By Simon Campbell-Whyte, 14 October 2013

Great news for the Industry: In all good newsagents nationwide..

Read the article from David Willetts, Minister of State for Universities and Science where he talks about the importance of the data centre industry and the DCA "Boot Camp"!

Read Emma Fryer's fantastic "myth busting" piece!

great pieces from Huw Owen (ARK) Bernard Geoghegan (DRT), Liam Newcombe and Nicola Hayes (DCD Intelligence).

Andrew Stevens (CNet) provides great background and recommendations to tackle the skills gap.

And much more from across the industry....

Many thanks to DCA members Colt, Pulsant, ARK and Digital Realty - who without their support the report would not be possible!

DECC ESOS Consultation - It's not over yet..!

Posted By Matt Pumfrey, Smart Carbon Control Ltd, 04 October 2013

Report from DECC ESOS Workshop 27th September 2013

As part of Article 8 of the EU Energy Efficiency Directive (2012/27/EU) all member states have to introduce a regime of regular energy audits for large enterprises (non-SMEs) that will capture many DC operators. The aim of these audits is to promote the uptake of cost effective energy efficiency measures. These audits must be undertaken by 5th December 2015 and whilst the guidance is for audits every 4 years after the initial audit national legislation may require more frequent auditing.

The consultation documentation can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/energy-savings-opportunity-scheme

The consultation is an opportunity for DC operators to put across their views. It is important that the industry has input as this could have significant impacts moving forward.

Whilst the time for consultation is due to close on 3rd October – they are going to continue to take input.

PEDCA Scoping Event - Thanks to all!

Posted By Simon Campbell-Whyte, 02 October 2013

Many Thanks to all DCA Members and Friends who participated and contributed to the PEDCA scoping event last Wednesday - I hope you enjoyed the event.

It all helped give the project a great start with valuable industry steering with some great feedback and input.

The Event kicked off with a series of presentations headed up by DCA Senior Vice President and Emerson CTO Prof Ian Bitterlin, who described the industry’s issues and challenges. Following this, presentations on the project itself and a look at the PEDCA survey results. This got everyone in the right frame of mind for the workshops, which proved extremely valuable. Overall about 200 people attended the event which is a great start in ensuring the project moves ahead with a strong industry participant network to develop a Joint Action Plan for the industry.

The "joint” part of the "action plan” is absolutely essential for the project’s success- and that means you and your colleagues – if you missed this survey and the event this time, don’t worry there is much more to come, but do not miss the opportunity to participate in the next survey coming soon which starts to move into territory that gets serious for all of us – if you would like to participate on PEDCA and are not yet registered,  you can do so free at www.datacentrealliance.org (click on the "get involved" link)

Here's a couple of pictures from the event:

Time Running Out... New Data Centre Supplement - are you in yet?

Posted By Phil Turtle, 20 September 2013

Update: time's running out if you want your company to be involved.

DCA's new Media Partner CCJ & AAR (a CEO/CFO targeted digital magazine) is running a new Special Supplement on Data Centres and Data Centre Technology

They want your news, feature articles and case studies

And they've come up with a very novel approach to advertising - they will actually bind (digitally of course) your BROCHURE within the magazine - or you can run a normal advert.

They're offering a big discount for advertising and brochure inclusion to DCA members.

HURRY HURRY!

There were a lot of members disappointed that they were too late to be included in the New Statesman Special Report – don’t miss out on this one so please book early to avoid disappointment

To take up these offers and get into the Data Center Special Supplement please contact Carol Baker direct: carol.baker@creditcontrol.co.uk with a cc to philt@datacentrealliance.org stating that you are a DCA member.

To see a back-issue of CCJ&ARR please follow this link http://turt.co/dca27 [U: pics | pass: pics] and it’s 5 Megs so please be patient!

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

How can you benefit?

1) Editorial

Firstly CCJ&AAR is looking for high quality (not too technical) feature articles on data-centre related topics plus case studies and end-user relevant news.

Please send these to the journal carol.baker@creditcontrol.co.uk with a cc to Phil Turtlephilt@datacentrealliance.org together with the contact details of your ‘PR’ person for any follow-up queries.

(By the way – please note that only subscribers may normally have material published and this is only waived because of DCA’s Media Partnership with CCJ&ARR

2) Bind-In your sales or corporate brochure

Because CCT&ARR is a digital pdf magazine – they do something we’ve never seen in any other media – they give you the opportunity to do far more than a one or two page advert. You can actually bind-in a pdf version of your sales brochure of corporate brochure and it will appear within the magazine.

CCJ&ARR rate card for a bound-in magazine in colour is £2750

DCA member rate Phil has negotiated is just £1320

3) Advertise

Of course there is the option to run a normal display advert in the magazine

CCJ&ARR rate card for a full page A4 advert in colour is £1620

DCA member rate is £950

4) Product and service directory

For a mere £30 you can be listed in the Data Centre Supplement’s product and Services Directory

If you take up one of options (2) or (3) above – it’s free.

NOTE also that, since CCJ&ARR is published digitally, they are quite happy to include hyperlinks within your brochure or advert to drive traffic direct to your website.

To take up these offers and get into the Data Center Special Supplement please contact Carol Baker direct: carol.baker@creditcontrol.co.uk with a cc to philt@datacentrealliance.org stating that you are a DCA member.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

About CCJ & ARR Magazine

· Over 17,625 subscription readers (paying £1450/year)

· Of these

61% are CEOs and CFOs

Another 15% are CIOs and professional advisers

27% are in companies with > £ 500m turnover

46% are in companies with > £ 100m turnover

69% are in companies with > £ 50m turnover

32% have >1000 employees

60% have > 500 employees

84% have > 100 employees

The publication has a distinguished audience gained over 25 years and have been asking for features on data centres. Therefore, a Data Centre Supplement is proposed which will also be promoted to another 390,000 potential readers on FREE circulation.

This opportunity is best suited to DCA members that wish to promote directly to large enterprises, so is therefore most appropriate for colocation and data center providers, Managed Service Providers (MSP’s) and Cloud Providers. We think it’s important that this business-leaders audience become aware of the "secret” Data Centre industry that powers their world and start to realize just how important it is to them.

For those of you that want to reach this target audience, our new Media Partner is offering some excellent discounted promotional packages to DCA members – to help you get your message in front of these high-ranking business leaders, in detail.

What’s the magazine called – well that’s the odd bit, and largely due to its history. I think its name greatly undersells the breadth and depth of its coverage. It’s called Credit Control Journal and Asset & Risk Review (a merger some years back of the two titles) however the important thing is it has a massive circulation and over 17,000 industry leaders actually PAYING over £1400/year to read it. And read it they do!

Phil Turtle has been working for the last couple of months with CCJ&ARR Editor Carol Baker on this project and to follow up our coup with the New Statesman special report due out in August he has agreed with CCJ&ARR that they will do a DCCA-led Data Centre Special Supplement for the business community.

We hope you’ll help us and that DCA members will lead the supplement.

PEDCA Scoping Survey - your voice is needed.

Posted By Simon Campbell-Whyte, 03 September 2013

As part of the DCA/UEL led EU commission project to define an industry action plan, I invite all DCA members to provide a few minutes of your time to lend your voice, viewpoint and expertise.

One of the most important aspects of any successful project is to ensure a clear set of objectives within a well defined scope that sets out what is "in" and "out" of scope.

This essentially provides the guidelines for the project going forward and helps avoid project "scope creep".

Our PEDCA action plan envisions four activity areas. These are illustrated, alongside the related industry representation required at the upcoming Scoping Event workshops here

The survey itself can be completed here

If you would would like to attend the scoping workshops please apply here

Or if you would just like to attend the networking and social evening following the scoping event register here (registration for this is not required if you are already registered for the scoping workshops).
