EUCOC Oct Update Meeting

Posted By John Booth, Carbon3IT, 13 August 2015

Its thats time of year again, the annual update of the EU Code of Conduct for Data Centres (Energy Efficiency) which will take place in Ispra, Milan, Italy on the 6th October 2015.

The invitations have already been sent out to interested parties but due to a lack of space at the EU JRC not all participants and endorsers will be able to attend this year, and some of you may not have received your invitation.

That said, both Simon Campbell Whyte (DCA) and myself have been invited and will be attending, therefore if there are any DCA members who wish to pass on any observations, comments or suggestions for new best practices, the retirement of old ones that are no longer relevant or indeed items from Sections 10 & 11 of the code that should be upgraded, please get in touch before the 30th September and we will collate all your thoughts and present them to the committee.

Our Energy Efficiency steering group will provide feedback and information at our next meeting which is on the 17th November 2015 at the UEL (more details will be sent out closer to the event), please note that we always try to colocate with an industry event, and in this case it is DCD Converged which takes place the following 2 days at ExCel London.

We look forward to seeing all our members at the event.

EURECA!!

Posted By Simon Campbell-Whyte, 13 February 2015

As posted in the news, EURECA is a winning project bid that has been chosen by the EU Commission to implement a coordination & support action to improve the uptake of energy efficiency and environmental data centre products and services.

The project commences in March and will run for 30 months. The project’s deliverable will be an easy to use self-assessment tool to score a data centre against best practices, KPIs and a maturity model, which then outputs procurement recommendations, guidelines and road-maps. Please note there is no intention to create new standards - but utilise what we already have and those that are soon to arrive.

DCA Members will be kept informed and will be encouraged to participate throughout - DCA members can help right now by assisting with connecting Public Sector organisations to the DCA and promoting the fact that they can join for FREE

Please also see the attached slides providing a short overview of the project - comments & feedback, as always, is most welcome!

2015 Best Practice Guidelines for EU CoC

Posted By Kelly Edmond, 02 February 2015

It has come to my attention that the 2015 Best Practice Guidelines for the EU Code of Conduct on Data Centres has been published! http://iet.jrc.ec.europa.eu/energyefficiency/ict-codes-conduct/data-centres-energy-efficiency.

The document can be downloaded HERE

The DCA recommends that all data centre operators adopt and implement the Best Practices as a participant. However If you are not a data centre operator please help your industry by becoming an active Endorsing organisation,

For more information on why this is important, and how to sign up please click HERE

UK haven't won Eurovison in years, but are these points more important?

Posted By Simon Campbell-Whyte, 22 October 2014

Well today, the DCA become official Endorsers of the EU Code of Conduct.

More on that later, in the meantime we've been counting data centres and these are the scores on the doors by Member State for participating data centre sites...(yes I counted all the ones who have data centres in multiple countries)
